Tanja Roscic, born in 1980 in Zurich, graduated with a BA in Fine Arts from the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). Tanja Roscic has created a visual language using materials appropriated from everyday life. She uses these familiar items in sculptures, performances, drawings, and collages, forming worlds that capture moments of transience, metamorphosis, and the in-between. Crashed cars, neon lights, and hanging foam sculptures populate her chaotic, immersive environments. Referencing practices of the occult and alchemy as well as folklore, she transforms her materials through deliberate actions including melting, mixing, dissolving, dying, welding, cutting, and covering. Likewise, her paintings and drawings feature images of hybrid figures in near-states of being, or wildly composed collages made of various materials that hint at the process behind their making. Exhibiting a counter-culture, rebellious attitude, her throwaway materials juxtaposed with a certain painterly expressionism, create a powerful aesthetic. Tanja lives and works in Zagreb and Zurich.
